Benaleta's story

Benaleta is 51 years old and lives in the town of Mityana in the Central region of Uganda. She is married and has 6 children with 2 of them currently in school. For the past 4 years, Benaleta has been working hard to manage her business, which sells coffee, beans, rice, maize flour and cassava.

To help expand her business, Benaleta has requested a loan of 5,500,000 UGX from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more coffee, beans, rice, maize flour and cassava flour for sale, and will help Benaleta to generate greater profits and more revenue. She will be able to provide basic needs for her family, like food and clothes for her children.

Benaleta hopes that in the future she will be able to complete building her house. She is a member of BRAC's microfinance program which primarily serves small-group members like her, who do not have collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown and qualify for microloans.
