Oscar's story
Hello! My name is Oscar, I am a visual artist, educator, and cultural manager. I am the founder and director of La Serigráfica. A creative project that I started almost 10 years ago, in the marquee of my grandmother's house while I was studying visual arts. I first encountered silkscreen printing in a local church community center, near where I used to live, that had a small studio that offered workshops. There, I learned how to print on shirts and started making my own designs and selling them at festivals and wherever I had the chance.
This provided me with a perspective on how I could develop an art practice that could be independent from other more commercial works that helped me make an income while still working within the arts field. From there, I kept expanding my passion and knowledge on silkscreen printing, and its history on the island of Puerto Rico, to the point were I started making designs for posters, my own and also for festivals, projects, and even helping other artists print their works and designs.
Currently this has become a real passion and a steady work between printing my designs, helping and collaborating with other artists, offering workshops, and occasional more commercial works for a diverse portfolio of artists, cultural institutions, local businesses, and many creative projects. I only hope to be able to keep doing this work in to the future, and keep developing partnerships and inspiring new generations of artists to keep alive this medium with such history in our country. While also furthering its possibilities of creation in a contemporary manner, in a collaborative and creative workspace like La Serigráfica.
